The Four Major Challenges in The Sewing Machine Industry Development

Oct 08, 2023

"From the change trends in the past few years, our country will see significant developments in clothing fabrics, varieties, and patterns. The structural adjustments in our sewing machines industry will also contribute to the growth of the Chinese clothing industry. Personally, the following four points should be the issues to be noted in the textile machinery industry:

1. Strong domestic demand brings opportunities. With the determination of the national health theme, changing consumer preferences, and the continuous improvement of the living standards of our people, the demand for clothing will undoubtedly increase, leading to a high demand for sewing equipment.

2. Greater room for improvement in sewing equipment brings opportunities. With the increasing openness to the outside world and the relaxation of labor export policies, coupled with the rising value of labor in China, the production cost of clothing is bound to increase, gradually losing its competitive edge in market pricing.

3. Joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) opens up opportunities for clothing exports. Before joining the WTO, our textile and clothing quota regions accounted for 22%, while non-quota regions accounted for 78%. After joining the WTO, quotas and restrictions on certain products in European and American markets will be eliminated within 5-10 years. China's clothing exports will expand from non-quota regions, and by 2005, exports could increase by 40% to reach $46 billion. Orders for sewing equipment in China have noticeably increased, making the upgrading of sewing machines a necessary step.

4. Market opportunities during the upgrade and transformation period. The typical upgrade cycle for industrial sewing machines is about 5-10 years. From the domestic situation, the early 1990s saw a peak in upgrading from household machines to industrial machines. With the resurgence of the clothing industry, another upgrade period is imminent, which will undoubtedly drive the market.

From some perspectives, the stability, advancedness, and reliability of sewing machines depend to a large extent on the assembly skills of assembly workers. Therefore, it can be said that the assembly skills of sewing machine manufacturing enterprises directly affect product quality, reputation, and market competitiveness.

Sewing machine assembly details determine success or failure. Sewing machines are relatively complex mechanical products. Depending on different requirements, sewing machine assembly methods can be divided into general assembly, grouped assembly, dual assembly, component assembly, machine assembly, and debugging (including "adjustment" and "test run"). If divided by different machine assembly requirements, sewing machine assembly can also be categorized into synchronous, comprehensive, and differential assembly.

It should be noted that sewing machine assembly not only refers to assembly during the production process but also includes installation and debugging during repairs.

In the production process, sewing machine assembly mainly includes six aspects: 1. Understanding the main structure and working principle. 2. Reading the part catalog, part samples, and shaft sleeve positioning diagram. 3. Finding part numbers, applying parts, quality analysis, and defect identification. 4. Assembly and testing of the entire machine. 5. Quality analysis of the entire machine. 6. Diagnosis and maintenance of machine failures.

In the process of sewing machine repairs, assembly tasks mainly include: 1. Identifying the types and diagnosing common faults during product use. 2. Eliminating common faults during product use. 3. Installation and debugging of the entire machine in the user's operating environment.

For any sewing machine enterprise to produce sewing machines with good quality and compliance with specifications, the assembly process of the factory's sewing machines must meet the following two basic technical requirements: First, precision machining of parts. For parts that have undergone surface painting, electroplating, and other surface treatments, there will be adhesive layers at the assembly joints (including holes, slots, planes, and screw holes). Therefore, such parts must be precision-machined according to the technological requirements before entering the assembly process.

Second, cleaning and washing of parts. When it comes to the assembly details of sewing machines, assembly worker Yang Huiqing said, "For us assembly workers, cleaning and washing of parts are crucial, especially for parts like bushings and bearings. For example, during the assembly process, if various types of shaft components are not thoroughly cleaned according to the technological requirements, issues like high temperatures in bushings, excessive transmission torque, and the intrusion of sand, chips, and other debris can occur, leading to accelerated wear of the bushings, or even severe faults like 'locking up.' So, we must take cleaning and washing of product parts seriously."
