5 types of Zigzag Machine

The zigzag machine uses one or two needle threads and a shuttle thread to form a straight or curved stitch. It can sew two or more layers of sewing material together, or sew decorative stitches on one or more layers of sewing material, with a variety of functions, so it is also known as a multifunctional sewing machine.

In addition to all the functions of a straight stitch sewing machine, the zigzag stitch sewing machine can sew decorative zigzag stitches, floral pattern stitches, overlocking stitches, sewing buttons, locking buttonholes, etc. It is also suitable for sewing cotton, linen, and other fabrics, or sewing decorative stitches on one or more layers of fabrics, so it is also called a multi-function sewing machine. It is not only suitable for sewing cotton, linen, silk, wool, chemical fiber, and other non-elastic fabrics, and can also sew elastic knitted fabrics.

The zigzag stitch sewing machine is formed on the basis of the straight stitch sewing machine with an additional mechanism. When sewing a zigzag stitch, a pattern generator controls the trajectory of the sewing thread in the horizontal direction. There are two types of pattern generators: the mechanical type and the microcomputer type. Mechanical pattern generators utilize the lifting distance of the pattern cam to push the needle bar system to swing horizontally and control the feeding system. The micro-computer type pattern generator utilizes the pre-stored pattern program, and the stepping motor controls the needle bar system and the feeding system according to the selected pattern program to sew various different shapes of patterns.

There are 5 types of zigzag machines: Semi Multi, Full Multi, Semi-Auto Multi, Full Auto Multi, and Super Auto Multi.

01. Semi-Plus Sewing Machine.

In addition to the functions of an ordinary sewing machine, a pattern generator (needle bar swing mechanism) is added to control the left and right swings of the needle. With manual lever operation, regular zigzag decorative seams, zigzag elastic seams, and welt seams can be sewn.

02. Multi-purpose sewing machine.

In addition to the functions of the semi-versatile sewing machine, a set of needle bars with left, center, and right shift mechanisms is added to expand the range of applications. With manual lever operation, the machine can sew regular zigzag decorative seams with left, center and right as the base point, sew buttons, and lockstitch holes.

03. Semi-automatic multi-purpose sewing machine.

On the basis of completing the functions of a semi-automatic multi-function sewing machine, a set of mechanisms to control the swing of the needle bar is added, so that the machine needle can automatically change the width of the horizontal needle according to the requirements, and thus sew regular zigzag shaped decorative thread seams automatically.

04. Fully automatic multi-function sewing machine.

On the basis of completing the functions of the full multifunctional sewing machine, the mechanisms for controlling the needle bar swing, the needle bar left, center, and right shift, the length of the feed, and the reverse direction are added respectively. It can automatically sew regular zigzag decorative seams, patterned decorative seams, and lockstitch buttonholes.
