Maintenance of Sewing Machines in Garment Factories
Jan 24, 2024
Sewing machines should be maintained after a period of use to extend their service life. The following are several maintenance tips provided:
●Adjusting the tension of the drive belt: After a period of use, if you find the sewing machine running slower, check the belt tension. The sewing machine's manual will indicate the proper tension for the drive belt, which can be checked by pressing the middle of the belt with a finger - it should sag about 5 millimeters. If two belts are used, the faster-moving belt can be slightly looser.
●Regularly lubricating motor bearings: For frequently used machines, lubricate the motor bearings every quarter by adding one or two drops of sewing machine oil into the oil hole on the motor end cover. Do not over-lubricate, as excess oil can dirty the commutator and cause a smell and decreased speed.

●Replacing the drive belt: The V-belt transmits power through friction on both side faces. Over time, the belt wears down and may slip when it hits the bottom of the pulley groove. If the tension is increased, the turning speed might decrease and slow speed performance may deteriorate. In such cases, replace the belt with a new one of the same specification.
●Replacing carbon brushes: The brushes are consumables and should be kept away from oil. They should be checked for wear after a certain period; when two-thirds of the brush length (approximately 5 millimeters) is worn, they are no longer suitable for use. There are many specifications and types of brushes; when replacing, ensure you use brushes of the same model and specifications. When changing brushes, unscrew the brush cap, remove the old brush, and ensure it is correctly oriented to maintain good contact with the commutator.
●Keeping clean: The motor and speed controller should be kept clean. Lint and other materials generated during sewing can invade the electrical components, affecting performance. Regularly clean accumulated dust.
●Maintenance must be performed with the power off Electrical disassembly and repairs indicated in the manual should be performed under the guidance of experienced personnel to avoid unnecessary malfunctions.
●When the sewing machine is not in use, cover it and store it in a dry, chemically non-corrosive environment.
These maintenance procedures help ensure the longevity and proper functioning of sewing machines in a garment factory setting.
